A SENSORY SAFE approach
to improve Michigan School Wellness –
foster inclusive social emotional learning & achievement of DIVERSE goals.
Educators AND students are overwhelmed, frustrated, and burnt out.
STRESS and ANXIETY are definitely showing up as the classroom vibe;
Manifesting as chaos– dysregulation, social struggles, and academic challenges.
It’s time educators and students
step OFF the struggle bus 🚌
and INTO thriving classrooms.
A STRONG school culture is one where the
mission is clear and VALUES ARE LIVED,
relationships are positive and collaborative,
academic AND mental well-being are
VALUED and CELEBRATED,
learning achievements are fostered,
and equity and inclusion are PRIORITIZED.
Trauma-Informed SEL and Adaptive School-Based Yoga in Lansing, MI
👋 I’m Gloria Treviño,
Founder & Owner TheraPLAYoga
Inclusive SEL & Accessible School-Based Yoga
You should know…
TheraPLAYoga is NOT your typical school-based yoga program and this is NOT a jack-of-all-trades situation; I play favorites.
💘 My faves are neurodivergent, disabled, and trauma-impacted children, youth, and adults.
And I’m not interested in just bendy poses and breathing.
I believe an approach that is playful, sensory-safe (not compliance-based), inclusive, and accessible IS key to thriving- and I want this for your whole school community.
TheraPLAYoga offers trauma-sensitive, interoception-informed school-based yoga programs; hyper-focused on social emotional learning for children and youth with complex needs, accessibly aligned with CASEL standards, AND supports educators.
BEYOND the doors of my adaptive yoga studio-
I partner with schools and districts, READY to elevate their school culture to convert their classroom vibes from STRESS TO SUCCESS.
Why is accessible school wellness SO important?
If schools and districts aren’t investing in diverse approaches to the positive mental health, empowerment, and wellbeing of their educators and students – ESPECIALLY the most vulnerable – they’re contributing to the stress.
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Youth with disabilities are 5-times more likely to experience mental, emotional, and behavioral health disorders1 and suffer trauma- adversity and victimization- at a higher rate, than non-disabled peers.2
EDUCATOR BURNOUT
59% of teachers say they’ve experienced burnout; with 44% saying “very often or always.”3
Let’s be f’real…
Keeping up with academic demands and surviving the day-to-day leaves educators with little time and mental capacity to figure out something new and outside their scope, let alone how to effectively apply it in classrooms.
Educators and students NEED mental health support and positive coping strategies.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL;
they also need trauma-informed protective interventions.
And radically INCLUSIVE, TRULY accessible and sustainable self-care strategies,
supported by science, and work WHEN
– or better yet –
BEFORE the wheels on the bus fall off.
Trauma-Informed SEL Program for Students with Developmental Disabilities
Social emotional skills are a privilege and the programs are often a luxury in schools.
The real problem is-
typical SEL programs aren’t targeted toward
students with developmental disabilities WITHOUT a deficit model lens.
And WILDLY, social emotional learning can prove essential in helping
students with complex needs – “behavior problems,” disabilities, trauma, and IEPs
– meet their goals (and support positive mental health).
^^ Isn’t THAT what you want?
Ditch the antiquated
compliance-based approaches &
unlearn maladaptive coping mechanisms.
✏️ Pencils up…
If you’re *ach-u-ally* committed to cultivating a thriving school and classroom culture; that supports and nurtures personal empowerment, positive mental health, and academic confidence
– and NOT revert to maladaptive coping mechanisms
(*ahem* chaos) –
you’ll need to offer kids a diversely designed SEL program and MORE than bendy poses and breathing.
I view behaviors through a polyvagal, interoception, and trauma informed lens; and use a relationship based approach to improve and strengthen student-educator and caregiver bonds.
TheraPLAYoga: Supporting Diverse Bodies, Brains, Abilities, Backgrounds & Identities
Trauma-sensitive, sensory-informed movement and mindfulness programs,
from TheraPLAYoga, are the easiest (and most playful) way to
alleviate educators’ mental load and support diverse populations of students –
cultivate social emotional mastery and nurture positive mental health;
so your classrooms can improve academic confidence and engagement and create a sense of belonging.
Trauma-Informed SEL & Mindfulness for Students with Complex Needs
TheraPLAYoga is the only adaptive movement, mindfulness, and social emotional learning program in Mid-Michigan specialized to support students with disabilities and IEPs –
physical, mental, and developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, sensory disorders, and trauma –

How to Bring Trauma-Informed SEL & Inclusive Wellness to Your School
Let’s build a thriving school culture with customized SEL & wellness programs; get personalized support, trauma-sensitive practices, and inclusive solutions.
OKAY. OKAY. HERE’S THE PROCESS…
1. We Chat
💻 Click the button to fill out School Strategy Application and arrange a free curiosity chat. I’ll review your application and when we connect via Zoom, we’ll discuss your vision, goals, bright ideas, and questions. I’ll share my availability and if you know I’m the right facilitator for you – you can put down a retainer deposit to secure the booking on your desired date then and there.
2. Guided Preparation
📑 After our chat, I’ll send over your proposal packet. This includes the price magazine, my availability (and another opportunity to put down a retainer deposit), and a collaboration guide. This is a streamlined version of everything we discussed during our curiosity chat and clear ways we can work together, as well as what you need to know about our collaboration to get us on the same page. This packet doubles as a presentation to your colleagues, if they are not part of our initial chat but integral in the decision-making process.
3. Collaboration Kick-Off Call
🎉 Yay! You’ve made the investment in your educators’ and students’ wellbeing and contracted moi to facilitate; be on the lookout for your Welcome Kit. This is the most important phase for me to truly customize a program for your group(s)- understand what’s needed for a successful assessment and implementation, the most vital areas of focus, and your long term goals for your school and populations. We can’t not be on the same page by this point.
4. Bringing it to Action
🔑 Whether you’re feeling confident you’ve clearly conveyed your bright ideas or not – this part is my superpower – the ability to read between the lines, understand diverse backgrounds and complex needs, piece it all together and create the impactful SEL and wellness program you want and your educators and students need. Even better though, it’s intentionally designed to be trauma-sensitive, radically inclusive, truly accessible, and help the diverse populations- that make up your school community- thrive.
At this point it comes down to this…
Academic success is achieved through over-all wellbeing
and felt sense of safety and support.
It’s time to make sure your staff and students CAN embody the high-standards of your school culture & climate.
Because if you DON’T provide accessible/ inclusive/ relatable resources
to practice mental health self-care, empowerment, and social emotional resilience-
and do it with the most vulnerable and marginalized in mind…
You’re gonna have problems.
The key is sustainable strategies.
Best make sure they help (and not harm).
