Gloria Treviño

Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Lansing MI Gloria Trevino

Somatic Yoga & Sensory Mindfulness Facilitator in Lansing

Hey, friend.  I’m Glo (she/her), inclusion & compassion activist and mom-doin’-all-the-things turned founder of TheraPLAYoga.

I’m on a mission to redefine wellness support for kids, teens, adults & caregivers with chronic physical, emotional, and mental health challenges and conditions.

I help neurodivergent, disabled, and trauma-impacted people feel seen, valued, safe to unmask, and move with love through the practice of TheraPLAYoga— and that starts with learning to accept and support my own differences, challenges, and healing process.

My approach is uniquely informed by my experiences as a 40+ year old woman and mom to a teen boy with complex developmental disabilities.

I work as an openly neurodivergent, disabled, and trauma-impacted yoga and nervous system regulation facilitator, holistic parent coach & mentor, inclusion & compassion activist, and a community space-holder.

I’m a smidge obsessed with what I do and I am passionate about cultivating affirming, trauma-sensitive, neuro-inclusive, and anti-ableist environments that honor each individual’s experiences and intersecting identities.

WAYS WE CAN WORK TOGETHER→

How it started
… how it’s going

Personal Experience

My experiences with domestic abuse, chronic illness, pain, and stress; disability, and parenting a child with complex developmental disabilities has deeply informed my practice and my path.

Personal Practice turned Professional Path

I learned, firsthand, the transformative power of play, somatic yoga, and mindfulness in navigating challenges, managing pain, nurturing compassion, and fostering healing, resilience, and healthy relationships.

Commitment & Mission

This awareness fueled over 500 hours of training and my commitment to sharing my therapeutic modality to help kids, teens & adults with complex needs understand their nervous system, to connect to their bodies, transform their relationship with their minds & engage more [play]fully in their lives with self & others.

Anti-Ableism & Mental Health Advocacy

It’s led me to become a passionate advocate for: accessibility and anti-ableism, wellbeing for individuals and families with disabilities, children and parent-caregiver mental health, and trauma awareness and healing.

Community Care

My work towards this shows up in different ways. I’m a volunteer parent mentor for The Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs (Family Center). I serve on the board of the Michigan Advocacy Program and the Association for Children’s Mental Health Parental Advisory Committee (ACMH-PAC).

Founder of TheraPLAYoga Adaptive Yoga Studio in Eastside Lansing

Upholding my values and building on the foundation of TheraPLAYoga, an evidence-based approach to positive mental health, nervous system regulation, and sensory integration, I opened TheraPLAYoga Adaptive Yoga Studio in Eastside Lansing, Michigan.

Accessible Yoga Teacher for People with Disabilities, Trauma, & Autism

IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD…

I live, work, and play in my Michigan hometown. You’re most likely to catch me doin’ mom stuff, yoga things, nature adventures, or riding a shopping cart like a scooter, and plotting to change the world.

Bookended by the State Capital and Michigan State University, the Eastside neighborhood’s got eclectic swagger and diverse options worthy of time spent between here and there. Here are the spots on— and off— the Michigan Avenue Corridor I rattle off to anyone passing through.

The Eastside Lansing Guide

Something Unexpected

There are countless places in the Lansing area to enjoy a stroll through nature.  On the Eastside, we have Ranney Park Wetland in, of all places, Frandor.  With ponds, waterfalls, and light features, it makes for a convenient & beautiful stroll to kill time before dinner or drinks.

Entertainment

Eastsiders have an affinity for creativity & community— from music bars, comedy, trivia, special events, etc… coming in hot: The Green Door, The Avenue, & Mac’s Bar.

TheraPLAYoga is the middle child between The Green Door & The Avenue.

Cocktails

From casual drinks with old & not yet known friends to dressed-to-the-nines cocktails with your partner— these are some of the more unique places for sips.

Rooted Socialite: Kava & Non-Alcoholic Bar

Phillip’s Cider Bar: Thee BEST hard ciders around.

Toscana: Pinky up. 🥂

Restaurants to try

Of course, you’ll encounter Midwestern soul food—beer, burgers, pizza, fried food … etc.  Hit Toarmina’s or Edmund’s for that. The others are faves for date nights + lunch dates.

Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant: Go for the Margaritas, stay for the chips & guac (& another margarita 😉).

Altu’s Ethiopian Cuisine & Bar

Capital Prime: This one deserves pretty shoes.
